Former U.S. Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights
Rina Amiri served as the former U.S. Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights in the Biden Administration and has over two decades of expertise working on foreign policy issues She served in State Department under the Obama Administration and has held leadership positions in the United Nations. She has advised and worked with governments on peace processes, including in the Middle East, the Gulf, Central and South Asia, and western and the Horn of Africa. Her areas of focus are multilateralism, peace and security, with a specialization in human rights, and inclusive mediation processes. She previous held senior positions in a variety of universities and think tanks, including Harvard’s John F. Kennedy’s School of Government; Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson Center, and New York University’s Center for Global Affairs and The Center on International Cooperation.. She has championed the rights of women and vulnerable populations, particularly the plight of Afghan women, for decades and is a founding member of Inclusive Security, a global women’s initiative advocating for inclusive peace processes.
